Exploring Entrepreneurship

Everyone wants to be an entrepreneur but everyone may not survive as an entrepreneur, it’s in exploring this that we find out if we will succeed or not.

How will you know if you don’t give it a try?

If you work nine to five (9-5) you probably dream of a day when you will own your own business and be a part of the “American Dream”.

A recent article by Gallup poll shows the percentage of employees engaged at work worldwide,” Only 15% of the world’s one billion full-time workers are engaged at work. It is significantly better in the U.S., at around 30% engaged, but this still means that roughly 70% of American workers aren’t engaged. It would change the world if we did better.”, click here to link to their page and read more.

The Wetzel’s Pretzel owners used to work 9-5, they worked for Nestle before quitting their day jobs. On a business trip when one told the other about an idea the wife had to sell soft pretzels at the mall, and right there they sat a bar and drew up their business plan on a napkin. And yes, you guessed it, the business know as Wetzel’s Pretzel was born.

In 2017, taking the leap to entrepreneurship is still scary, we would rather wait till we retire before we live our dream and fulfill our passion for entrepreneurship.

Why and when did we get this way, was it when we became bread winners or was it because we didn’t have a clear life-plan when we were young.

The good news is you can still pursue entrepreneurship or a side hustle, all it means is that we missed it at a young age.

Are you still ready  to explore what the path of entrepreneurship from a 9 – 5 requires from you:

(1) sacrifice,

(2) tough skin,

(3) risk taking, and

(4) commitment to your business idea when the going gets tough so you don’t quit.

You are shaking your head right about now and saying well that’s easy for you to say, I  have a question for you Gloria: what if I work 9 – 5 to support my family I can’t just up and quit, are you saying I should do that ” Just Start” meaning I should quit my current job.

No that’s not what I’m saying…

I am saying this though, you should give entrepreneurship a try before killing it, that every new idea is like a flower which if watered correctly will bloom and grow to and above its potential or die if not watered, so why not give it a try?

If you now have a 9-5 job and think you may actually thrive as an entrepreneur then you need to give this entrepreneurship thing a try, that’s all I’m saying. Do it in such a way that as you explore it, that entrepreneurship won’t jeopardize your current job, family and finance.

Can you still love your current job and explore a side hustle/entrepreneurship.

5 ways to love your day job while exploring entrepreneurship:

  1. Get to work and work for four hours straight and use the remaining four hours for calls, inter-office meetings.
  2. Put your phone on airplane mode for those first four hours.
  3. Create a to-do list at the end of every day.
  4. Tackle your most challenging work first.
  5. Offer to help others in areas the that you have a natural talent in.

How can a child in school explore a side hustle/ entrepreneurship as a younger adult:

(1) find out why they were created when still in middle or high school;

(2) find their talents, what their interest, skills and potentials as these are are things that continue to get harder to do when you get older and have a family to support financially;

(3) I would also make sure they create a vision board and a life plan, game plan of their future goals so that they know their long-term and short-term goals in life.

And for every man, woman, youth, and child about to pursue their dream, remember that entrepreneurship and authenticity goes hand in hand to help us be successful:

(1) see yourself as created to do this;

(2) see yourself as people see you;

(3) discover what your super power is;

(4)  know what your weakness are.

Yes, start, without knowing if you are making the biggest mistake entertaining such thoughts.

Yes, do this now without knowing the risk involved.

Sincerely in Joy,

Gloria

Encouragement from an optimistic single mom. Life changed for me in 2008, and since then it has been an adventure. I have learnt to love the road I am on, and smell the roses while driving on it too. I believe that standards of living can change without a moment’s notice, affecting our old way of life. That Passion can die, and be reignited again. I found my passion and It's writing and the story behind it. I'm super passionate about hospitality, leadership and finance. I am a single mom of boys who wants to change the world through a smile and genuine service. I own up to the fact that I make an awesome follower. I encourage and I inspire. I write, I blog, sometimes - I lead well, and sometimes I follow badly. But the important thing is to get started. I recently met Simon Sinek, the Start with Why Guy and and so continue to inspire the world. Email me for a free 20 minute chat or to help you on your way to your Why.
