My Self-Awareness Journey
Let’s talk about self-awareness; how it is a light that comes in when you don’t even know you have been in darkness, that it seems as selfishness to others but disguised as self-care from you to yourself.
No one can be of use if they are an empty well. Empty: Defined as containing nothing; not filled or occupied.
For me it took years to become self-aware. Have you always taken care of others? Then that is what you “DO” (meaning… I’m a go girl) naturally, as a result you forget to take care of yourself; you may even forget that taking time to care for yourself is an option, a non-negotiable.
I think it is different for everybody because of our personality and demographics. In hindsight; the applause of taking care of others must have been a form of martyrdom (family and friends) subconsciously a way to gain approval and fit in and even though I did it from a place of not wanting anything back.
I have always wondered if people told me and I just kept doing my thing.
If you are taking from somewhere else to help others, or you feel like you are cheating, that is a disservice to those people: work, children, health or our marriage.
Everything we do must be done with an eye for balance; it doesn’t need to be balanced though, and that’s because once we feel the engagement or the flow is off we can reevaluate and re-adjust to get back in line, i.e. take a tire.
Now I know what works for me and how I can do my best work to help people, places and causes. To give from a well that is not empty.
Me being aware of my weakness is being aware of my strength too.
