How to Start Finding Time for You When You’ve Never Before
The challenging task of finding more time in the day is the same for every mother; single mom or not, we are constantly balancing work, family and play time for our children but not investing enough time for ourselves.
Strangely, I will find time for my children’s invites for; birthday parties, playdate, camping trips, drop off and pick up for basketball, football practice and trips to the barbershop to get their haircut but for momma to get her hair done, na wahala (wahala means ‘this is a problem”).
I usually end up scheduling at the least 3 appointments before finally getting it done, and that’s if I get it done at all.
How wrong is this, what impression are we giving our kids for how to behave when they are older.
Are you thinking this never happens to me, momma, this post is not for you.
If this is you, then, the new plan is to create time for you by speaking up at home.
We all get the same 24 hours in a day no one has enough time, we all create it.
Let’s do the math here and you quickly realize, this; 24 Hours in a day ( minus) – 8 Hours at work; – 2 Hours in the car for work; – 1 Hours in the car for drop offs and pick up; – 3 Hours used to get yourself and family ready in the morning and at night; – 2 Hours attending your child’s school events and 2 HourS cooking and cleaning up; what’s left mom?
As you start to fit in you; hobbies, side hustle, exercise, eating healthy and meditation and/or prayer you will notice that creating and finding time becomes easier for you.
I really love what I’m discovering, that more time equals joy and alignment of flow/balance, which will help me finish my current task and tackle new ones.
4 WAYS TO START
- Schedule a day for self-care on your calendar.
- Have a meeting with kids (and hubby) let them know that when you are in the house or out of the house on said day from X time to Y time it’s for the self-care of you.
- Explain to your kids that once momma finishes her self-care she will join in the family activity and spend quality time with them.
- Assign chores and activities, while you are working to keep them busy.
