The Grief Series with Tisha Harvey; How to Advocate For a Murdered Loved One and Yourself While Grieving, Getting Her Degree, Financial Empowerment & Writing Her first Book – #012

Mother/ Social Worker/ Advocate / Resource Queen

Tisha Harvey, Lost her mom in June 2019 and her kid’s father in April 2020 (during the height of the Covid shutdown) less than a year apart. She shares her story of advocating, grieving, financial empowerment, overcoming her learning disability, and how she healed and we talk about the book she just wrote Survivor Turned Provider a personal memoir about the author.

The conversation on this episode is not just about the grief of losing her mom and the steps she used to advocate the murder of her children’s father. We talk about why education is necessary, what education affords us, like buying a home because you furthered your education, writing a will, having life insurance: for ourselves and our parents, shared parenting empower women to ask for this, and finding Jesus again. And of course, we also discuss how Tisha pivoted her career to become a social worker. To name a few.

She is also an authour, her book: Survivor Turned Provider is a personal memoir about the author. A gripping story about how Tisha overcame a suicide attempt, PTSD, and how she fought for her freedom on two different occasions in two different cities.

Born in Pasadena Ca, raised in San Francisco Ca and currently reside in the East Bay. I am the mother of two teenage boys. She is thankful to God she does not look like what she’s been through. She’s so grateful for the trials and tribulations she endured and overcome. They have truly been great life lessons! Some good, some bad, and some in between.

She currently works for a company that provides services to homeless Veterans. This is her first role as an Associate Clinical Social worker fresh out of grad school. She is blessed to have been able to secure a position three months after Grad school.

A few of her goals include using her book for speaking engagements, sharing her story on large platforms, and motivational speaking. She continues to give back to her community. To become financially literate. Buy a house. Create and build generational wealth.

My children are my world! She shares.

Obtaining both her B.A. degree and Master’s degree are a few of my biggest accomplishments thus far, which she did in the past 8 years.

A few of what we talked about.

  1. Share your grief story, the passing of your mom and kids’ father. How did it affect you, how have you grieved their deaths.
  2. How did you survive: what tools did you use to keep going?
  3. Why is talking about grief so important?
  4. Can you share what happened the first year of both their deaths, and how were you able to navigate it?
  5. Navigating the death of a loved one at home – how easy was it?
  6. How do you advocate for the death of a loved one who was murdered?

Why the Grief Series Podcast? Why talk about grief?

Why the Grief Series Podcast? Why talk about grief? As early as March a lot of people lost someone they held dear to them, it wasn’t until October that I too was personally and permanently affected by a death. My life changed the day I found out my dad died. Like everything else I do, I decided I wanted to find out more and share my perspective and to hear from others. That’s how the grief series started, with one podcast episode as the goal, but as I spoke with people to find that one person to interview I quickly came to understand that GRIEF was very deep.

Who is today’s Podcast for, it really is for everyone who wants to find the tools to become better in all they do, to get to that higher version of themselves they were created to be? And this doesn’t mean that there is something wrong with those of us that aspire to be better, what we do know is that to do our highest work and to show up as our highest self we need to be self-aware.

Encouragement from an optimistic single mom. Life changed for me in 2008, and since then it has been an adventure. I have learnt to love the road I am on, and smell the roses while driving on it too. I believe that standards of living can change without a moment’s notice, affecting our old way of life. That Passion can die, and be reignited again. I found my passion and It's writing and the story behind it. I'm super passionate about hospitality, leadership and finance. I am a single mom of boys who wants to change the world through a smile and genuine service. I own up to the fact that I make an awesome follower. I encourage and I inspire. I write, I blog, sometimes - I lead well, and sometimes I follow badly. But the important thing is to get started. I recently met Simon Sinek, the Start with Why Guy and and so continue to inspire the world. Email me for a free 20 minute chat or to help you on your way to your Why.
